The second clinic in our Bicycle Technique Series is titled Drafting 101. In this clinic we'll focus on pace-line riding, a fundamental skill in road cycling that will help you to ride safely in a group. By use of a pace-line cyclists are able to ride faster and farther leveraging team effort and aerodynamics to their advantage. Even if you only occasionally ride with others, it's a good idea to understand pace-line technique so that you can navigate with and around other cyclists safely.
Unlike previous clinics, this one will be spent entirely on your bike so please bring a bicycle and helmet. We'll meet at the Robert's Lane trailhead of the Palatka - Lake Butler Trail on Hwy 100 in Carraway at 8:30 am for a 9:00 start time. The clinic will begin promptly at 9:00, so please allow enough time to unload your bike and get ready. We'll discuss some basics at the trail head then ride to the new trailhead in Florahome and back, approximately 14 miles total. During this ride we'll practice pace-line form at a comfortable pace. The route is mostly shady, but it will be hot so please be sure to bring a cold water bottle with you and stay hydrated during the ride. We should wrap up between 10:30 and 11:00.
Helmets are required for PB&T events.
